Last Day of 2008

Rex and Max are now friends. Rex was not sure about him at first but now they spend a great part of the day fighting and sleeping.
It has been a glorious last day of 2008 and a perfect day for the beach.
Enjoying the sea and sun at Governor's Beach after some sand fights and American football.

Happy New Year, best wishes for a safe and happy 2009!

Meet Max!

Meet the newest addition to the family: Max!

He is a lot German Shepherd and so far not receiving a warm welcome from Rex! But he has been warmly received by the two snugglers. They are quite excited. Cleaning up pee will soon end that.

And on a negative note, tomorrow I say good bye to a wonderful friend who is leaving the island. Selda will be greatly missed by all of us who have had the pleasure of being her friend. This is her last Cayman sunset this evening with Liv on the right. Hope she'll be back some day.

Christmas 2008

5:30am came very early this morning and the anticipation of waiting for Aunt Shir Shir 'till 6:30am was about as much as they could take. Then the fun started. Hunter got a new bike, the family got a new TV!

Hayley also got a bike but I think was more surprized by the TV.
Then we went over to Katherine's where there was more in store including a Wii. A very happy Christmas morning and now its on to Granny's and then back to Katherine's for Christmas lunch.

Christmas Boating

We said bye to Ms. Kris today. She is back to the frozen north for Christmas and seen here getting used to her winter wear and saying goodbye to Rex. We will miss her for the two weeks and hope she has a wonderful time with her family and friends.
Then it was off to play at Rum Point as usual. Got our quota of lobsters and conchs in the morning then enjoyed them in the afternoon. It was a beautiful day, light breezes, warm temperatures and plenty of sunshine. I used the occasion to deliver some Christmas gifts so wore my red shirt and Santa hat.

Not to be outdone, Owen went wakeboarding in a full santa suit! Quite the spectacle. Good boy, just like his uncle Frank.

Christmas Concert

Hayley and Jenn at the Triple C Christmas concert.
Hayley on stage.

Can you spot Hunter? Hayley is in there too. Later, Hayley was an angel and Hunter a shepherd except that Hunter refused to wear the robe (too girly) so was a best-dressed shepherd! All in fun, despite some sound problems a very entertaining show and some amazing talent too.

Oh Christmas Tree!

Thankfully I haven't been invited to many Christmas parties 'cause this is the kind of thing that happens! This was the Marriott party and it was quite enjoyable. Still can't believe they invited me back after last year's performance! ;-)

Ok, so the tree is a little crooked but thats what happens when you get a genuine Chinese Douglas Fir ... and it has been beautifully decorated by H&H who now await some gifts under the tree. Sorry, had so much fun this weekend we forgot to take pictures!

New Wheels

The "new to me" 2007 Toyota Hilux Truck purchased two weeks ago (and still clean!).

Yet another Sunday...

Yes, another day boating at Rum Point. We started the day at 10 and got 6 lobsters and 10 conchs, returned to Gary's, cleaned the conchs and boiled the lobsters.
Picked up some extra "crew" and went to our usual spot at Rum Point where we proceeded to consume much of what we caught (and more).

But it hasn't been all fun and games this weekend. I went in to work at 6:15am on Saturday morning while the children did a school 5K walk with Shirley. Then Hayley, Hunter and I painted the south wall of Webster House and retrieved the Christmas decorations from the North Side house.

Go the tree up and decorated and even managed an evening of Jazzfest! All tired tonight. Great weekend.

Surprise Birthday Party

Sharon threw a surprise party for me and it was a complete surprise.

Even some school friends were there. It was a great time but under the weather today!

We celebrated Thanksgiving with friends and family at Sharon's house and dealt with the birthday formalities at the same time. Hayley, Hunter, Jennifer, Granddaddy, Grannie, GranGracie, Shirley, Sharon, Eric, Malin, Tony, Lisa, Carol, Katherine, Elliot, Lauren & Yasmine enjoyed the traditional feast and lots of laughs.

Windy and cold

A very windy, rough and cold (24C, 75F) Sunday but that has never deterred us before!
So we were off again to see what we could find for lunch. Yes, that is a beer at 11 in the morning.

Luckily, Aunt Shirley, Owen and John did all the hard work of finding our limit of 10 conchs.
Then we went back in to the safety of the house!

There Shirley and I cleaned them, Gary marinated them, we smoked some tuna and turkey, a few friends stop by, enjoyed some wine, talked a lot and pretty much spent the afternoon just enjoying each other's company. Not the typical Sunday, but well spent nonetheless.

Busy Saturday

The day started with football; Triple C 2-Red Bay 2. Then we were off to North Side to remove all the hurricane shutters and do general cleaning. Rushed back to town for Hayley's rehearsal quickly followed by the Netball uniform parade and awards. A little drawn out but Hayley's team looked well even though they did not get an award.

At Granny's

We spent the afternoon at Granny's enjoying the beautiful sunny afternoon and giving Rex a much needed outing.
He enjoyed the swim as much as we did!

Pirates

We missed the pirate's invasion but enjoyed the parade. Very small crowd and strange that everything started early rather than late.
Then Gary picked us up at the dock and we watched the various activities from the harbour...

including the fireworks display.

Some very interesting designs and colours and especially spectacular being on the boat looking back at the lights of George Town.
