Summer is definitely here!

Other than the heat, humidity and longer days, there are other ways of knowing summer is here. The appearance of the Rain Bird (Mangrove Cuckoo) and the mosquito spray plane in the sky are also good indicators! The Cuckoo was busy teaching two young ones the fine art of catching lizards and robbing nests much to the displeasure of the Loggerhead Kingbirds, who raised quite a fuss. There was also a noisy flock of parrots this morning providing background music for a wonderful two cups of coffee. The spray plane is busy larviciding the ponds to the south of us in anticipation of the first real rain in months. Yes, those are electrical wires, the neighbor's TV tower and one very frightened dove! Its in the high 80's today (30-32C) but a nice brisk breeze out of the Northeast. Children at piano and gymnastics then to a birthday party. Hopefully we will make the best of the last day of conch season tomorrow on Gary's boat in the North Sound.

Monday after school

Ann very kindly invited Hayley and Hunter over after school where they met three visiting girls. They had a great time together. The girls have been in the Venezuelan jungle for 8 years and speak a tribal language (and English!). Everyone, including Rex, had lots of fun while I did laundry and tried to find a new nanny!
Then everyone slept really well.

What an Earth Day Week-end! Friday evening we helped re-plant trees along coastal areas levelled by Hurricane Ivan almost two years ago! The Governors office including his excellency Mr. Stuart Jack toiled in the hot sun along with other volunteers. Then Dad was presented an award by the Minister for Tourism, Environment, Investment and Commerce the Honourable Charles Clifford at a reception on Friday night. Saturday we collected Hunter's early birthday present, photos of which will be forthcoming when I figure out how to put it together! Then we celebrated Uncle Gary's birthday at his pool party. Sunday morning was the 5K Fun Run very early in the morning, then our usual calls to friends and family around the world! And with so much company on Sunday afternoon there was not ime for the beach, so Hayley, Katherine and Hunter bathed Rex and then cooled off under the hose out on the porch! Not a bad weekend all things considered!

Easter Weekend Part II

More pic's of Easter weekend:
The moon rises over Charles Bay, more tubing, Hayley & Whitney exploring the mudflats at low tide while Aunt Shirley cleans fish, and Hunter and Hayley in a tidal pool at low tide. From the previous post: Frank holds a Yellow Jack and Hayley is not happy about his demise, Hunter holds a conch shell, Hayley and Whitney then Hayley and Whitney on the tube, we try to fit luggage and 8 people into our chartered plane coming home.

Easter Weekend

Just a short set of photos of our weekend with the Fosters in Little Cayman. More to come! Lots of fishing, boating, swimming, snorkelling, playing and way too much eating! It, as always, ended way too soon.

Sunday Afternoon

A few too many for the Kayak so took a swim in the neighbor's pool. It was a hot day and the cool water of the pool made for a very refreshing and fun time. L-R, Hunter, Katherine, Hayley and Nina.

Sunday morning

While everyone played on the swings and slide some rare Cuban Bullfinches enjoyed a bath as I watered my orchids!

Manicure

Friday's birthday party went fine but the pictures didn't. Saturday the usual, then we were off to West Bay where Hayley made a new friend who gave her an ocean-side manicure and pedicure! Today's plans are a walk with Rex now, talking to the family in Canada next, a little house work, then kayaking and swimming in the afternoon.

Week of April 7

It was parent's day at Modern Dance and Tap class and Hayley performed for Hunter, Brittny, Aunt Shir Shir and me! On Wednesday Rex had a date with the vet to eliminate any possibilities of him becoming a single parent... You can tell from the photo he doesn't have a clue what happened to him. Dress Down day at school today then a little party for Hayley's best friend Starri's birthday this evening. The usual Piano and Gymnastics tomorrow morning, I am taking a bunch of children out exploring in the morning and so far no plans for Sunday. Looks like a great weekend developing though.
